I've noticed that in the new build there is a lot of strange screen and menu flickering going on in the following sections of the game:
- When entering a pop-up menu (in-game switch character, leaderboards, how to play, controls, settings, credits, etc.)
- When Dr. Fetus pounds on the screen in the pause menu
- When the Meat Boy loading screen appears (when loading a level for example)
- When scrolling between characters on the character select screen (before starting a level)
This seems to only happen when the game is running higher than 60 fps. I tested the game at 60 fps and did not see any of the flicker issues. When testing at both 85 and 144 fps the flicker was present.
I recorded a video of the issue. Be advised, that due to recording a 144 fps source and YouTube throwing out some of my frames to get it down to 60 fps, you are not seeing as much flicker as I do. For instance, every time I pop up a menu, or scroll to a character in the character select, I see flicker. This is not the case in the video. The video does demonstrate the issue, however.
As a side-note about the video, I'd like to mention that the blood-trail that Meat Boy leaves in the video looks very odd. This is only present in the video and I am not seeing this during gameplay. I believe this is being caused by the dropped frames by YouTube, as it seems that parts of the blood-trail flicker very rapidly during gameplay which is not normally perceived by the player as it is happening so fast. Unfortunately, YouTube is ruining the illusion by dropping frames.
